How the calculation works
Weighted scores expose tradeoffs. They do not create objectivity.
For each option, the tool multiplies every score by its criterion weight, adds those products, and divides by the total weight. A criterion with weight 10 influences the result twice as much as one with weight 5.
The arithmetic can be exact while the inputs remain uncertain. Record why each weight and score exists, test plausible alternatives, and use a premortem or independent perspective when the consequences justify it.

What is a decision matrix?
A decision matrix compares options across several criteria. In a weighted matrix, each criterion receives an importance weight and each option receives a score. Weighted scores are added to create a comparable total.
How do I use a weighted decision matrix?

What are the limitations of a decision matrix?
A matrix can hide weak evidence, false precision, dependent criteria, missing options, or value judgments embedded in weights. It supports a decision but should not be treated as an automatic verdict.
